Paulie from Cosmonauts

Firmly making their mark on the intergalactic disco scene, Cosmonauts music flips the boundary between tripped out house, italo disco, balearica and electronic cosmic synth.

Continuing on from the success of their track ‘El Toro’ in 2010, Cosmonauts next single ‘Disco Biscuit’ was released on Rayko’s Rare Wiri imprint in May 2011. The original ‘Italian Version’ was already a fixture in the sets of most of the main players in the disco fraternity, but Rare Wiri consolidated the release with fantastic remixes by Ilya Santana, Nelue, Lou Teti & Irregular Disco Workers.

‘Disco Biscuit’ was the first of what was to become an onslaught of original material released in 2011 by these disco fanatics, a slew of remixes for acclaimed artists such as Tronik Youth, Figures, Psychemagik, Politeca, Junkie Wife, NSFW and also Moby graced many a dancefloor over the course of the year, but one of the major triumphs for the boys was the launch of their own record label, aptly named Super Trooper..

‘Chickens in Milan’ was the first release on Super Trooper in June 2011, with the follow up ‘Cycle Eyes’ in September. Carefully chosen remixes came from revered artists such as Fusty Delights, Psychemagik & Debonair respectively. Cosmonauts own ‘Summer Version’ of Cycle Eyes was the jewel in the crown though, hitting the top spot on the Juno Disco chart and found favour with Bicep, The Project Club, Mighty Mouse, Matt Moroder, Caged Baby, Mustang and Drop Out Orchestra to name a few.

Shortly after ‘Cycle Head’, their rousing italo disco monster ‘Snakes Head’ was snapped up by a certain Vito De Luca of Aeroplane and licensed for inclusion on his eagerly anticipated ‘In Flight Entertainment’ – a compilation of exclusive, hand picked tracks from ‘the most promising breakthrough acts of the moment’ and was released in the autumn on Eskimo..

Towards the end of 2011 Data Transmission, one of the world’s most respected dance & electronic music and lifestyle sites asked Cosmonauts to submit a mix for their ever popular podcast series. With in excess of 50k plays, this mix truly exceeded all expectation.

Cosmonauts ended a spectacular year by giving away their re-edit of Empire Of The Sun’s ‘We Are The People’ to great applause. The track hit number one on Hype Machine over Christmas and to this day has had over 15k downloads.

Moving into 2012, Cosmonauts’ remix for the Kitsune band Shindu received plenty of love from key players such as Punks Jump Up, The Magician and The C90’s and was a key feature on tastemaker blogs including Last Gas Station, Slothboogie and Golden Scissors to name but a few. Cosmonauts next single ‘Stardust’ heralded the third release on Super Trooper in March, and came backed with a gargantuan remix package courtesy of Kolombo, Justin Robertson and Linntronix.Vito Aeroplane having been given the exclusive for his popular Chart Mix series kindly gave props over his social media sites. Subsquently the hype rolled in thick and fast. Stardust was then featured on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection (Wonderments Section 9th March and much coveted Essential New Tune on 16th March) and was a fixture in Justin Robertson, Linntronix, Reflex, Kolombo and Goldroom’s March mixtapes, not to mention Punks Jump Up Mixmag Kitsune giveaway mix.

Cosmonauts monthly ‘Top Ten’ mix series goes from strength to strength as they religiously compile a combination of new and exclusive tracks from friends and peers from within their musical genre. Their February 2012 Top Ten has now reached over 12,000 plays, further cementing their success and momentum right now.

With plenty of european dates over the next few months and a glut of forthcoming London shows for Scandalism and Lemonade at The Nest, there really is no excuse not to catch Cosmonauts whichever planet youre on…
